Through working with Your Support, George has learnt how to use his digital devices so that he can live a more independent, and happy life.
George referred himself to Your Support after receiving a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) about an overpayment of pension credit. Due to a stroke he suffered some years ago, George told his Keyworker, Davina, that he finds it difficult to speak over the phone and couldn’t contact the DWP himself.
Davina contacted the DWP on George’s behalf, resolving the issue and ensuring that the DWP was aware of George’s vulnerability and communication challenges. She also assisted him in applying for a Blue Badge and helped clarify some questions about his Personal Independence Payments.
During a visit to help George organise his paperwork, Davina noticed some unclaimed Winter Fuel Vouchers. George explained that he wasn’t sure how to use them and had eventually forgotten about them. Davina helped him claim the vouchers.
Davina noticed that George was having trouble using his digital devices, often getting frustrated with online tasks. She suggested they attend a local Starting Point drop-in session together. George enjoyed the session and is now a regular participant, building his digital skills and confidence.
George said: “‘My speech is not very good, and I get confused with the computer and online forms. Davina has been very helpful and is a very nice lady. She has helped me with so many things and has taken me to the Community Centre to do a Computer Course! All of the team are so helpful and kind, you really make a difference to people like me who need a bit of a helping hand now and again.”
