Through Stockport Support Hub, Val has saved £100 per month and received essential equipment to enhance her independence and home safety.

Referred by her niece, Val was struggling after being off work for 28 weeks due to severe back pain following a hip operation. With her Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) ending, Universal Credit (UC) required her to look for work, something her health made impossible. Facing financial hardship, she had already spent her last UC payment on essential bills.

A Stockport Support Hub Key Worker provided Val with a £75 shopping voucher through the Household Support Fund, offering much-needed relief. They also advised her to apply for full Council Tax Support, as she was only receiving the single-person discount.

Recognising Val’s mobility struggles, a referral was made to the Stockport Council Equipment and Adaptations Team, ensuring she received essential mobility aids and home modifications. Additionally, the Social Prescriber at her GP practice helped her complete the Work Capability Assessment forms for UC.

Six weeks later, the Support Hub Key Worker followed up. Val shared that she had successfully secured full Council Tax Support, saving her £100 per month. She had also received a trolley for mobility and was awaiting grab rails to be installed in her home, enhancing her safety and independence.

Val now has the financial and practical support she needs to move forward with confidence.
